The unique story of Qanik®

Qanik origine

The worlds purest water

For more than 2000 years Qanik® Pure Iceberg Water has been frozen and preserved  in the vast icecap of Greenland north of the Polar Circle.

As the centuries pass, mother nature breaks the ice into floating icebergs from where millions of ice pieces naturally scatter into the Isfjord of Ilulissat. It is on this unique location Greenlandic Icermen® hand pick the ice exclusively for Greenland Ice Water and melt it into Qanik® Pure Iceberg Water – the purest natural drinking water on Earth.

TDS<5

A pure classification (a TDS, Total Dissolved Solids level of less than 10 ppm) is only achieved naturally by melted ice or snow that has never touched the earth. Measuring a mere 5 ppm, Qanik® Pure Iceberg Water surpasses even this rare level of purity.

Greenland

The story of Qanik® starts in Illulissat in Greenland – north of the Polar Circle. Greenland is the world’s largest island but with a population of under 56.000 inhabitants it is also the least densely populated dependency/country in the world.

For thousands of years ice, snow, and the sea has been the foundation of the culture of the local Inuits (Eskimos).

Icermen®

Qanik® Pure Iceberg Water works closely with the local inuits – we call them Icermen®. The Icermen® have many years of experience in hand-picking the right ice used for Qanik® Pure Iceberg Water.

Sustainability

Our facilities are designed to protect both the purity of the water and the environment, why we only use equipment approved and certified by the Food and Beverage Authorities, as well as the Medical and Pharmaceutical Authorities. Qanik® Pure Iceberg Water is the world first water brand in Greenland to be licensed by the Government of Greenland according to the Ice and Water Exportation Act of 2001.

As a distinct net import country (source: stat.gl) Greenland imports more goods than it exports – usually transported by sea. For distribution Qanik® Pure Iceberg Water avoids unnecessary carbon emissions by taking advantage of free capacity on ships returning to the mainland.
